DC SOCCER CLUB - Frequently asked questions

  • I'm new to D.C. What program should I sign up for?

Welcome to D.C. and to DC Soccer Club! We are happy to help you find the right program for your family. Please check out our NEW TO THE CLUB? section for an overview of what programs we offer. It includes a Program Chart that organizes our programs by age and level.

  • Where and when do teams practice?

This information will depend on which program your player is participating in. DC Soccer Club partners with a variety of private and public schools and agencies to reserve athletic fields for recreational soccer training sessions and match play. These respective parks and facilities are spread across the District of Columbia and areas of Montgomery County (MD). Recreational team practices are arranged by coaches. Information pertaining to where and when your child's team will practice will be coordinated by the Coach and/or Team Manager. Practice and game information will not be known until the schedule has been released a few weeks before the start of the season.

  • What are the differences between Recreational and Travel Soccer?

Recreational Soccer is designed for players who are just learning the game, as well as those who prefer a less competitive environment focused on fun and development. It is volunteer-driven, led by parent coaches and volunteer Age Group Commissioners, who generously offer their time in service to our kids and the soccer community. Teams typically practice once a week and have one game on Saturday. Games and practices are all local and held at facilities spread across the District of Columbia and areas of Montgomery County (MD).

Travel Soccer is geared toward players who have the desire to develop their abilities in order to play at the highest competitive level possible, including those whose goal is to play for their high schools, colleges, and at the professional level. Players in the Travel program receive guided practice and coaching instruction from professional, nationally-licensed coaches. Travel tryouts are held in the spring for the following seasonal year that begins in the fall. A commitment to play for a Travel team is a commitment for the entirety of the school year.

The Pre-Travel Academy (PTA) serves as a bridge program between recreational soccer and travel soccer, specifically for U6, U7, and U8.
