DC Soccer Club hosts the annual Len Oliver 5v5 Tournament each June in memory of Len Oliver, the club’s longtime Director of Coaching and one of the most influential figures in the Washington, DC soccer community. To honor Len's passion for youth soccer and coaching education, all proceeds from this tournament go into a joint-scholarship fund benefiting players, coaches and referees.
The Len Oliver 5v5 Tournament offers a day of small-sided play that reflects the creativity and spirit Len championed throughout his career. Open to
1st - 8th grade players of all levels, the 5v5 format emphasizes ball movement, quick decision-making, and collaboration. Teams may be formed of players from
different levels of play—Recreational, Pre-Travel, Select and Travel—so friends can participate together in a day of enjoyable competition. This inclusive structure allows for fun, spirited matches while still maintaining balanced and competitive brackets.
The tournament’s fun, community-centered format makes it a highlight to end the spring season on —bringing together players, families, and coaches from across the club and the DC region for a day of skill, sportsmanship and celebration. This year, with the World Cup Watch Party woven into the experience, the Len Oliver 5v5 Memorial Tournament will become an all-day celebration of the global game!
This year’s 2026 event will be especially memorable as the 5v5 tournament takes place during the excitement of the FIFA World Cup. On Friday, June 19 at The Fields at RFK Campus, players and families are invited to spend the day competing in the Len Oliver 5v5 Tournament before staying for a massive outdoor World Cup Watch Party beginning at 3:00 PM, featuring USA vs. Australia on a giant outdoor video screen.
In partnership with District Soccer, DC Soccer Club will transform the RFK campus into a community-wide World Cup celebration, bringing together soccer fans from across the region to watch the world’s game together in the heart of DC. Additional World Cup matches will be televised throughout the afternoon and evening, creating a festival atmosphere that extends well beyond the tournament itself. Families can enjoy food trucks, drinks, music, and community activations throughout the event.

Len Oliver played collegiately at Temple University, where he won a National Championship, and later played professionally both in the U.S. and abroad. After his playing career, he became a respected and beloved coaching educator, leading thousands of coaches through courses and mentoring generations of players. Len’s influence extended far beyond the sidelines. He was inducted into both the Virginia–DC Soccer Hall of Fame and the National Soccer Hall of Fame for his outstanding contributions to the sport and its development.
