WASHINGTON-  Phil Nana has been named Boys Director for DC Soccer Club to oversee the boys travel teams. Nana joins the DCSC travel staff after coaching at DC United Academy as the head coach for the 2010 boys and first assistant for the 2007 boys.

Director of Soccer Matt Arrington is excited to add Nana to the technical staff and pointed to his experience and character to help lead the boys program. “Phil has coaching experience at every level of play from youth to professional, has a proven track record of player development, and most importantly, his values and high standards match perfectly with the future of our club,” Arrington said. “Phil's ability to listen, lead, and collaborate fits in total alignment with our culture and he will be integral in implementing our updated coach and player development models."

Holding UEFA B and USSF B licenses, Nana has extensive experience coaching at the youth, collegiate and professional levels. In addition to overseeing academy teams at DC United, he also led local clubs and schools in Maryland including the Maryland Bobcats, Goucher College and Montgomery College.

“I am thrilled to be part of the DC Soccer family. I can see something special is being built here and it’s an honor to be considered for such a pivotal role,” Nana said.

In the role of Boys Director, Nana will collaborate with the boys travel coaches to ensure all teams are working within the club’s game model, provide support and assist in nurturing coaches’ development, and coordinate with the boys age group directors on planning, logistics and communication to further the experience of players and staff.

Originally from Cameroon, he played collegiately at Frostburg State University and went on to play in the USL with the New Orleans Jesters and most recently in the ASL with IFK Maryland.

WASHINGTON-  Recently, DC Soccer Club coaches have obtained new coaching licenses. Scott Currie earned USSF B licenses and Ronny Amaguana earned his USSF C license. Coach Mandi Caseres is in the process of completing the USSF A license, coach Nick Papadis is in the process of completing the USSF B license, and coach Erwin Diaz will be attending the USSF B license.

“It’s great to see our coaches gaining new licenses,” said Technical Director Khaled Hamami. “It will only help our players in their continued development and will help us strengthen as a club.”

The USSF B course that Langstone and Currie completed at the National Training Center in Kansas City is designed to introduce concepts that are targeted to coaching players aged 16 to college level. The course is designed to help coaches to observe and identify tactical and technical breakdowns in game situations, as well as learn to develop and implement appropriate training sessions to meet the demands of the game.

Murphy completed the USSF C course, which included two five-day meetings with a six- to eight-week development period in between wherein candidates return to their home environment for assignments and mentoring. The course covers tasks such as coaching training sessions, coaching games, leading players, leading the team, managing a performance environment and more.

Minton received his UEFA B License, where he took the course in England back in 2017 through the Professional Footballers Association. Over the last two years, he has been completing his course work, as well as continuing his field time which is a twelve month process. In November a PFA Coach assessed him on the field, as well as an interview.  This past Christmas he met with a Head of Coaching for the PFA to finalize the license.
