WASHINGTON, D.C. - DC Soccer Club members and staff will join VOICEINSPORT (VIS) at their Capitol Hill Day Briefing on February 1st to support the Fair Play for Women’s Act (FPFW Act). This bill looks to expand Title IX in Women’s sports.

The reintroduction of this bill is sponsored by Senator Chris Murphy (CT) and Representative Alma Adams (NC-12). The FPFW Act specifically looks to expand the reporting requirements for K-12 and college athletics data, hold athletic programs accountable when Title IX is violated, and improve athletes, staff, and stakeholders' knowledge of their rights under Title IX.

Former Women’s World Cup player and DC Soccer Club Girl’s Travel Director, Ann Germain, said, “Sports have been a huge part of my life. The lessons that I have learned through sport affect my actions and decisions both on and off the field every single day. The FPFWA seeks to ensure that young women and girls have equal opportunities for participation in sport and the personal development and character building that results from their participation.”

VIS Advocates teach student-athletes about Title IX and evaluate athletic programs for compliance with Title IX. The Capitol Hill Day Briefing will educate attendees on Title IX as well as the VIS advocate program. There will be notable speakers at the event, including student-athletes, VIS advocates, Members of Congress, women athletes, and Title IX experts.  All DC Soccer Club members are welcome to attend this event and learn about the future of women’s sports. Please contact DC Soccer Club’s Deputy Director, Michelle Alioto, with questions.

Annika Russell, a current DC Soccer Club U17 Blue Girls travel player, said, “I’ve played with DCSC since pre-K, and throughout my 12 years playing for them I can truly say they are always striving to create the best possible opportunities for their female athletes. FPFWA will help female athletes like myself who are seeking, supporting, and expecting equity and transparency in competitive sports at any level of play. I look forward to seeing a new horizon of opportunities in the future of sports.”
