WASHINGTON DC- DC Soccer Club has joined forces with five other DC-based clubs to form a winter soccer league in the District, with games kicking off on January 20. This collaboration allows the clubs to play competitive intra-club games during the winter season, focusing on development in the off-season while minimizing travel by keeping all games at home in the nation’s capital.

Named DC Winterfest, the league’s participating clubs have agreed on a shared vision for player and growth models of the game of soccer, ensuring each club maintains its training and player development models in a friendly, nurturing environment during league play. The league was formed and is led by the following participating clubs and directors: District of Columbia Football Club (DCFC), Director Amir Lowery; DC Way Academy, Director Denis Chekuristov; DC Soccer Club Brookland (DCSC Brookland), Director Thomas Walsh; DC Soccer Club (DCSC), Director Edu de Souza; Player Performance Academy (PPA), Director Annie Worden; and Washington Capitol United (WCU), Director Tudor Stanciu.

Tom Walsh, Director of Soccer for DC Soccer Club Brookland said, “As a lifelong resident of Washington DC, I have played youth soccer in DC, learned the game in DC, coached youth soccer in DC, and formed a soccer club in DC. It has been a long-term goal to see the local clubs in the DC area come together for the benefit of the game. This is a positive step for youth soccer in DC! ”

Edu DeSouza, Technical Director “The goal of the DC Winterfest League is to provide each player, team, and club with a positive environment which will allow coaches to focus on establishing good habits for player development, teach players sportsmanship and teamwork, and establish city-wide camaraderie and friendships. The five-week season allows each club to play a full day of games against each club in the league at local DC fields and facilities.”
