Three DC Soccer Club coaches and Travel Director/ Director of Education are set to travel to Barcelona, Spain for an immersive coaching experience in partnership with Catalan FA. The three coaches going on the trip are Mavis Danso, Patrick Corbett, and Anthony Ugorji. Danso serves as the girl's U9-U10 Age Group Director and currently coaches DC Soccer Club's Girls U9 and U10 Blue Metros. Corbett coaches DC Soccer Club's Boys 06 Blue Metros, Girls 05/06 Blue Metros, and Girls 08 Blue Metros. In addition to coaching, Corbett is the High School Girls Director and Girls' College Resource Coordinator for the club. Ugorji currently coaches DC Soccer Club’s Boys U9 and U10 Silver Metros.
The trip came about due to a connection that DC Soccer Club’s new Travel Director and Director of Education, Matt Badiee, has with the Union of European Football Associations. Badiee said, “Education is an ongoing part of DC Soccer Club’s coaching development. Both coaching development and educational development will become a pivotal part of DC Soccer Club’s future.”
On the trip, Danso, Corbett, Ugorji, and Badiee will attend training sessions, work on their coaching methodology, and have the opportunity to visit several different stadiums and training facilities. The main facility the three coaches will be visiting is the La Masia, a famous Barcelona training center and home stadium to FC Barcelona. Sharing ideas and having discussions to develop the coaching curriculum further is a focal point of the trip.
Danso stated, “I am really excited that DCSC is giving us the opportunity to go to Spain and learn different cultures in the youth program abroad, explore new ideas, and, enjoy the experience.”
Corbett said, “The trip shows the commitment from the club to coaching education and providing this opportunity allows us coaches the time and environment to immerse ourselves fully into it. In addition to spending time with colleagues, I am so excited to bring back knowledge to our home environment.”
Ugorji said, “I am truly excited about the opportunity to go on the trip. I’ve gotten the opportunity to experience the European soccer culture as a player and now I am really looking forward to learning and experiencing the soccer culture from a coaching and coach education point of view. I am really looking forward to seeing if I can learn some things that I can take on board and bring back to the players that I have the privilege of coaching.”
The coaches will be in Barcelona from the 24th to the 31st of January.
