This past weekend, DC Soccer Club’s Girls U13 Red Metros and Boys U15 Blue Metros won their brackets of the August Cup and East Coast Premier Cup pre-season tournaments.

The Girls U13 Red Metros played in the Silver Bracket of August Cup, a pre-season tournament held for teams U9-U19 the weekend before Labor Day at the Maryland Soccerplex in Montgomery County, Maryland.

The Girls U13 team, coached by Nick Papadis, won the semi-finals against Maryland Rush Rush 09 (MD) with a score of 2-0, before winning the finals against DMV FC 2009 Blue Calypso (VA) with a score of 2-1 on Sunday, with the final goal coming with less than one minute to play. In the group stage, the U13 Red Girls played two Maryland Rush teams, winning both games. The team finished with a goal differential of 6 with their only goal conceded being in the Final against DMV FC.

Other teams also showed promise in the August Cup. Coach Ronny Amaguana’s Boys U14 Red team was close to a spot in the finals. The team went 1-1-1 in the group stage including a tie 2-2 in their first game against Benfica Academy DC 2008 Red on Saturday. They did not advance to the final due to a tiebreaker.

In Loudoun County Virginia, the Boys U15 Blue Metros competed in the East Coast Premier Cup (ECPC) this weekend, a regional pre-season tournament focused on bringing East Coast clubs together on the weekend before Labor Day.

In this tournament, the Boys U15 Blue Metros Team, coached by Mohamed Bennani, won against ABGC Olympiacos DC 07 (VA) with a score of 3-1 on Friday. They continued this winning streak against PWSI Courage 07B Pride (VA) with a score of 4-1 on Saturday, as well as against Arlington 2007B Blue (VA) with a score of 5-1 on Sunday morning, and against Queen City Mutiny 07B (NC) with a score of 9-0 on Sunday afternoon. The team completed the tournament by scoring 21 to 3 goals against their opponents, with a scoring difference of 18 goals.

Congratulations to the winning teams and good luck next weekend to the teams competing in the OBGC Capital Cup.
