The Club Champions League (CCL) awarded DC Stoddert’s Coach Mavis Danso its 2021 CCL Kwik Goal Female Coach of the Year award at its annual banquet Tuesday June 8th.

The CCL administers an outstanding awards and recognition program, which includes Coach of the Year and long-term service awards designed to recognize excellence in youth soccer. The CCL gives out awards to coaches who have been a member of their club for two years, coach two teams or are full-time staff members, currently hold a USSF C or USSF B License, and have three letters of recommendation. If awarded, the nominee must stay at the club for another two years.

Coach Mavis has had over eleven years of coaching experience. She is currently the girls U9/U10 Age Group Director and coaches the Girls U9 and U10 Blue Metros. In 2013, Mavis was inducted into the Robert Morris University Hall of Fame and in 2018 was honored as DC Stoddert Travel Coach of the Year.

Danso is originally from Ghana and came to the US to play college at Robert Morris University, where she was a two-time National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) player of the year. After college, she played soccer professionally and competed in two Women’s World Cups and four African Women Cup of Nations for the Ghanaian National Team.

“We are extremely excited to announce Mavis Danso as the 2020 - 2021 Female Kwik Goal Coach of the Year winner!” said Mayowa Owalabi, CCL National Conferences Director.

“She has been a key staff member at DC Stoddert for multiple years! We love to watch her on the field as she has always displayed a professional environment that her players enjoy and truly develop in! Congrats again Mavis and DC Stoddert!”

Congratulations to Coach Mavis for this wonderful achievement!
