Matt Thompson

Matt Thompson is currently the Head Men's Soccer Coach at the University of the District of Columbia and has a lifetime of soccer experience behind him. In his youth he played on the youth team at Cambridge United in England. He played collegiate soccer at Slippery Rock University, where he also captained the team. He went on to coach there from 2002- 2009 and then coached at Lees-McRae College in 2010 before landing at UDC. 

During his career he has won the PSAC Championship at SRU in 2005 and 2009 as well as appearances in the Sweet 16 NCAA Tournament in 2008 and 2009. He was awarded PSAC Coach of the Year in 2005, 2008, and 2009. With his team at Lees-McRae, he won a Conference Championship and Tournament Championship in 2010. During his time with UDC his team has been the ECC Semi-Finalists in 2019, the ECC Finalists in 2017 and made a National Tournament appearance for the first time in school history.

Thompson holds his English FA Coaching Badge. He is married to his wife Danielle with whom he has two sons, Liam and Josh. Liam plays on his soccer team at UDC. The family shares a dog, named Becks (after David Beckham)! He coaches the U13 and U14 Boys Red Metros for DC Soccer Club.
