Program Information

Pre-K Plus combines popular aspects of Rec soccer with added coach education elements to enhance the experience for both players and volunteer coaches. The program's dual goals are to (1) develop the players as team members & soccer players, and (2) develop the volunteer coaches and give them the tools to work successfully and enjoyably with children.

Dual goals for Pre-K Plus: The Pre-K Plus framework will focus on two goals: developing the children as soccer players and teammates, and developing the volunteers as effective and fun coaches.

Each day's session includes a series of fun age-appropriate activities focused on soccer skills and techniques, physical mobility, and game rules, and concludes with a short game.  And by the end of the season, team coaches end up more confident and comfortable working with their teams, and the players come away with a stronger sense of the game and how to enjoy it.

Each team’s session will be led by volunteer team coaches (parents or others), with staff coaches present to advise, help & instruct. Sometimes the staff coaches will jump in to demonstrate an activity, and other times they will observe and provide supportive feedback. The volunteer team coaches will have significant opportunities to learn and grow as coaches.

Volunteer team coaches work with staff coaches: Teams will continue to have volunteer (parent) coaches, and professional DC Soccer Club staff coaches will work with teams and their coaches as well.

Team-based program with all games played in the same location: Players will be placed on teams, and all games will happen on Saturdays at one of two field locations. The maximum size of a team is 8 players, with 6 to 8 player being optimal.

Similar Pre-K scheduling on Saturdays: Games will take place on Saturdays, most likely in the mornings depending on field availability.  There may be some variation week-to-week, but most teams will not have wild swings in game times.

All players receive a size 3 soccer ball: Players will start out properly equipped and ready for action!

Registration fees do not include the cost of uniforms.  All players must wear approved DC Soccer Club uniforms, purchased directly by participants from a special web portal on soccer.com. Order details will be sent directly to registrants.

NOTE:  Program capacity will be limited, so signing up early is the best way to ensure a spot on a Pre-K Plus team!
