What age group are U7-U8 Pre-Travel Players?
The Pre-Travel Academy is specially designed for U7 and U8 (players born in 2017, 2016, and 2015)

What is the difference between Pre-Travel Classic and Pre-Travel Premier?
Pre-Travel Classic practices once a week and have a local scrimmage on Sundays. Pre-Travel Premier practices twice a week and plays in the Metro Development League (MDL) against Junior Academy teams from other clubs. All games will be hosted by Alexandria.

Are their tryouts?
No, Recreational players looking for more training and/or the next level of soccer are encouraged to sign up for our Pre-Travel Academy.

What is the expected commitment? Do I have to give up on other sports?
DC Soccer Club’s U7-U8 Pre-Travel Academy program is aimed at the long-term development of players, which requires a commitment to consistent practice. This does not mean players cannot play other sports. Players in these young age groups are encouraged to play other sports for more well-rounded development.

What will the coaches focus on in training?
Individual Player Development. One player on one ball. Technical training will be a priority in order to develop the fundamental skills necessary to be successful in later years. Long-term skill development is essential. Coaches will introduce tactical decision-making, physical development, and psychological development while developing a love for the game of soccer.

Is there a uniform for Pre-Travel Academy?

Yes- read the following information. DC Soccer Club has partnered with PJ’s Soccer/Lacrosse Shop of Bethesda to ensure excellent customer service and provide our club families with a local retail shop for all their equipment needs. PJ’s Soccer Shop has uniforms in stock and available for purchase through its convenient online store. Families can purchase online and choose to have their uniforms shipped to their homes or pick up in the store. Families may also choose to purchase their uniform in the store to try on sizes, soccer shoes, and other soccer gear.

All DC Soccer Club members receive a 10% club discount in-store for non-uniform and non-sale items.

PRE TRAVEL ACADEMY (PTA) UNIFORM REQUIRED:

  • Red Adidas Training jersey.

All DC Soccer Club Pre-Travel Academy (PTA) players must have the red Adidas Training Jersey as their uniform. This is the same jersey our travel players are required to have in the travel program, so Pre-Travel Academy players may keep this jersey throughout the PTA program and if moving on to the travel program at U9. If PTA players are returning from the 2022-2023 season, they do NOT need to purchase new uniforms unless they would like to. If you will need to purchase jerseys, please select YES when asked “Does this player need to order a uniform” during Pre-Travel Academy registration. You will receive an email after registration with ordering information. (Please check spam).

OTHER EQUIPMENT NEEDED: Shinguards, soccer cleats, shorts, and soccer socks are also required but can be purchased anywhere. However, PJ’s Soccer Shop has all of these items available and affordably priced— Adidas shorts and Adidas socks can be purchased via the online store (as well as in-store).

FINANCIAL AID: For players who qualified for financial aid and who need new jerseys, select YES when asked “Does this player need to order a uniform…” during registration. More information will then be sent to your email to order and for pick up. Questions for financial aid/uniforms may be directed to Jennifer Werth: jwerth@dcsoccerclub.org.

Once a player has the new uniform, there’s no automatic replacement of the uniform; you can upgrade to the next size only when needed or use a hand-me-down from a sibling or friend. If returning players have uniforms from the 2022-2023 season, or any time since then, they are all set! Jerseys may be used as long as they are serviceable; there is no requirement to replace the jersey.

What does the U7-U8 Pre-Travel Academy Program expect from parents?
1. Arrange to get your child to training and play days on time
2. Be supportive of your child and fellow DC Soccer Club PTA members
3. Leave the coaching to the coaches (cheer, but do not coach)
4. Encourage them to get the ball out in their own free time
5. Trust the process. Some games and drills may not look intuitive but all have a purpose

Can a player do both the Pre-Travel Academy program and the Recreational Program at the same time?
Yes, players not only can but are encouraged to stay with their Recreational team while participating in the PTA program. Games will never conflict, and if a practice does, the player has the option to choose which practice they attend.
