What is Futsal?
Futsal is a fun and fast dynamic form of soccer played worldwide on a smaller field. With DC Soccer Clubs Futsal, you get an 8-week game season, starting in January and running through March. This document offers a "crash course" in Futsal rules and shows the primary differences.
Who can participate in Futsal?DC Soccer Club offers Futsal to any player wishing to have a great experience during the winter season. Players from Rec or Travel are encouraged to form a team and register to play. Futsal is offered to players in Kindergarten through High School. We offer a division for boys, girls, and Coed.
When and where are the Games?
Games are held over the weekends in January through March. DC Soccer Club partners with a variety of private and public schools and agencies to reserve athletic fields and space for futsal match play. These respective parks and facilities are spread across the District of Columbia and areas of Montgomery County (MD).
When and where are practices?
No formal practice times are available or required. Coaches are welcome to conduct practices in other locations based on their schedules and availability.
How do I request a specific team? Do I need a team before I sign up?
Within the Futsal online registration, you will be asked, "Special Request: Does this player wish to play with a specific team or coach?" You may write in a team name and/or coach or simply write any if you don't have a specific team. This request is reviewed by the Rec Director. We try to accommodate requests but can not guarantee that space will be available on any chosen team.
How do I know if I have been placed on a team and where do I find my game schedule?
Team rosters and game schedules will be posted and accessible to parents a couple of weeks before the start of the season via the SportsEngine App. When the game schedule and rosters are released you will see the team listed in your SportsEngine dashboard and have access to the schedule.
Are Futsal teams coached by volunteer parents?
Yes! This is a great opportunity for volunteer coaches to learn more about Futsal.
What is the proper roster size for a team? Could we form a team if we have several players who all want to play together?
For teams with players in grades 2 and up, teams will play 5 v 5 (4 on the field + a GK), so the maximum roster size is 10. For teams of players in Kindergarten and 1st grade, teams will play 4 v 4 (4 on the field and no GK), so the max roster size is 8. If you know of a collection of kids who want to play together, wonderful! Have them all register and reference the same coach or team name within the futsal registration.
Are there any games over the MLK holiday weekend and the Presidents Day holiday weekend?
There are no games on either of those weekends.
Will uniforms be distributed? What should the team wear?
Teams determine what the players will wear for uniforms in futsal. Teams are allowed to where there club uniform or do something different as long as the team wears the same color and does not wear anything deemed offensive by club staff. Goalkeepers must wear a different color shirt or use a pinnie that is a different color.
Should players bring a soccer ball? Will they be playing with soccer balls? Do they need to buy a futsal ball?
DC Soccer Club will provide game balls on game days. The refs will have futsal balls for use in games. No one needs to buy a futsal ball unless they wish to practice outside of the scope of the existing program. Of course, we encourage practicing! Futsal balls are size 4 balls that are slightly heavier and have less bounce. This is to encourage players to keep the ball on the ground and it helps players focus on technical skills during games.
